2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs 2024 GMC Sierra 1500
For being roughly $10k cheaper than the Sierra 1500, you'd be surprised to see what the latest Silverado 1500 is capable of. We're here to break it all down for you, down to the engine specs, safety features, and more. Here is where you find out that going with Chevy is your ticket to the better side of Truck Nation.
Performance
It's easy to find the right truck for you when you have 3 distinct engine styles to choose from. And yes, each one for the Silverado 1500 really is distinct. You have the standard 5.3L V8 with a decent 355 HP, and then you have the upgraded 6.2L V8 that boosts you up to 420 HP. You even have a Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine if that's your thing. All in all, the new Silverado 1500 is able to tow as much as 13,300 pounds with an equally impressive payload of up to 2,260 pounds. If you're worried about this pickup being able to effectively assist with the task at hand, don't be. Available enhancements like the Autotrac 2-speed transfer case, automatic locking rear differential, and Multimatic DSSV dampers are all designed to give you the means to handle heavy-duty jobs and occasional off-roading.
More engine types don't make up for lack of power as you'll soon see in the Sierra 1500. With 4 engine options to choose from, only the most expensive is even worth considering. The standard TurboMax engine only puts out 310 horsepower with the next one up delivering 355 HP to match the Silverado 1500's standard. The highest-level 6.2L V8 in the Sierra 1500 is capable of 420 HP, but of course, it comes at a very high cost considering that this truck's base model is already $10k more than the Silverado 1500's starting price. At this point, it's all about value, and Chevrolet is winning.
Safety Features
Chevy Safety Assist is primed and ready for you in the Silverado 1500. Want more? That's not a problem as Chevrolet offers a wealth of additional safety and driver-assist features that you can claim in your very own Silverado. For starters, you might have heard of Super Cruise. This advanced piece of technology takes adaptive driving to new heights, guiding your drive in ways you didn't think possible with hands-free capabilities. If you tend to tow a lot, Chevy's special Trailering App is the companion you've always wanted. This app monitors your trailing status and helps you prepare for the trip ahead. Other available features for the Silverado 1500 include:
- Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert
- Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
- Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking
- HD Surround Vision
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Front and Rear Park Assist
Meanwhile, the new Sierra 1500 comes equipped with the GMC Pro Safety package which is basically this brand's version of Chevy Safety Assist. So then let's move on to available features that you can opt for. Comparatively, it's not much. Other than being able to support Super Cruise like the Silverado, the only other upgrades to consider in the Sierra 1500 are front and rear park assist.
Interior
We admire the Silverado 1500 for its ability to adapt to the situation. For instance, the available 40/20/40 split-bench front row comes in handy for many uses, almost like having a modular cabin. These seats double as hidden storage compartments under the seat and in the covered armrest. One of our favorite high-tech features is the available 13.4-inch infotainment screen which is larger than what you find in most vehicles, even with all of the highest tech upgrades. The available 12.3-inch digital driver display is just as welcoming, providing you with all the details you need front and center in crystal clear quality.
Many aspects of the available interior design choices are shared between the Silverado 1500 and the Sierra 1500 like perforated leather seats and 10-way power adjustments. However, the Sierra 1500 is missing the added utility that should come with any capable pickup which is why we value the Silverado 1500's cabin over this particular GMC.
Bottom Line
While both of these pickup truck goliaths are a good fit for your busy lifestyle, the new 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers more bang for your buck with incredible features that you either can't get in the Sierra 1500 or have to pay a premium for. So you're not just getting a better value, you're getting a better truck!
